The following roles are generic examples, and are intended as a guide only. The duties and responsibilities have been compiled in order to give you a broad understanding of what tasks you may be required to perform. For the fund accounting roles, the positions of Fund / Investment Accountant, Senior Fund / Investment Accountant and Fund / Investment Accounting Manager are distinguished by doing, reviewing and managing people respectively. However, overlapping of tasks may occur and several tasks carried out by Fund / Investment Accountants will also be carried out by Seniors and Managers as required.

Please note that each individual vacancy will vary somewhat depending on the employer's staffing structure. You will be provided with a specific job description and salary range prior to a Constellation consultant requesting your consent to forward your CV to a prospective employer.

Investment Accountant /
Fund Accountant

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree majoring in Accounting, Finance, Business or Commerce.
  • CA or CPA qualified.
  • 12 months post qualification experience with a public accounting firm or industry / commercial experience.
  • Committed to learning and self improvement.

Highly regarded but not prerequisites

  • Experience in preparing financial statements for and auditing self managed superannuation funds.
  • Working knowledge of financial instruments such as Equities, Bonds, Options, Swaps, Currency, Forwards, Futures and Bank Debt.
  • Working knowledge of Bloomberg.
  • Previous exposure to fund / investment accounting software packages such as Geneva, Prospor or other relevant systems.

Responsibilities / Duties
Day to Day:

  • Reconciliation of cash and security positions with Brokers and / or Custodians.
  • Manual trade input into fund accounting system as required.
  • Accounting for a range of financial instruments such as equities, bonds, swaps, futures, options, forwards, foreign exchange and bank debt / distressed trading.
  • Appropriate recording of corporate actions. (dividend reinvestments, spin offs, liquidations, rights issues etc).
  • Accurately account for all cash transactions, interest and dividend payments.
  • Calculating and recording dividend and interest accruals.
  • Foreign exchange hedging calculations and multi currency accounting.
  • Pricing of security positions held in the portfolio to market value.
  • Deal with dividends and corporate actions on a fund, in terms of how they affect the cash and positions on the portfolio.
  • Prepare and deliver high quality / timely NAV's within agreed deadlines.
  • Research position breaks and other differences and liaise with Seniors and Managers as required.
  • Broker position reconciliations.
  • Notify the Account Manager in a timely manner of client related issues including possible delays in meeting NAV deadlines.
  • Compile file with appropriate back up and audit working papers.
  • Management performance and fee calculations, invoicing and monitoring outstanding fees.
  • Prepare shareholder reports and financial statements on a periodic basis.
  • Prepare financial statement highlights and memorandums.
  • Reporting of fund prices to international financial publications and stock exchanges.
  • Attending to client and shareholder inquiries.
  • Tracking of subscriptions and redemptions.
  • Acknowledging and responding to all correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Assisting with the annual audit.
  • Identify and implement more efficient ways and alternatives in completing assigned tasks.

Reviewing

  • The review aspect of these roles are generally limited.

Technical Support and Training / Mentoring

  • Training of peers and new collegues as required.

Company Representation & Client Contact

  • Communicate with prime brokers and custodians.
  • Communicating and liaising with colleagues from other international offices.

Training

Senior Investment Accountant /
Senior Fund Accountant

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree majoring in Accounting, Finance, Business or Commerce.
  • CA or CPA qualified.
  • Minimum of 2 years post qualification experience with a public accounting firm or industry / commercial experience.
  • Committed to working as part of a team and mentoring staff as required.
  • Well developed ability to prioritize, work under pressure and meet agreed deadlines.
  • Flexible approach with a can do attitude.

Highly regarded but not prerequisites

  • Experience in preparing financial statements for and auditing self managed superannuation funds.
  • Working knowledge of financial instruments such as Equities, Bonds, Options, Swaps, Currency, Forwards, Futures and Bank Debt.
  • Working knowledge of Bloomberg.
  • Previous exposure to fund / investment accounting software packages such as Geneva, Prospor or other relevant systems.

Responsibilities / Duties
Day to Day:

  • All of the Day to Day responsibilities of a Fund / Investment Accountant may also be performed by Seniors to some extent.
  • Process trades, prices and transactions on more complex funds on the relevant software system and ensure automated processing completed by Data Management is completed correctly.
  • Deal with Data Management on a day to day level to ensure that information on the system is up to date, correct and accurate.
  • Deputize for Investment Accounting (IA) Manager in their absence to ensure the team is operating efficiently and within required deadlines.
  • Make suggestions / recommendations for the resolution of issues as they arise.

Reviewing:

  • Review various reconciliations to ensure that the correct portfolio information is entered and the NAV file is accurate.
  • Review of fund valuations for a portfolio of mutual fund / hedge fund clients.
  • Review of financial statements and working papers for special purpose vehicles and investment holding companies.
  • Verify and review the work of more junior colleagues for accuracy and completeness in respect of manual processing.
  • Review security pricing for accuracy.
  • Review the recording of corporate action transactions to ensure the correct accounting is recorded.

Technical Support and Training / Mentoring:

  • Act as a point of reference for more junior team members and provide on the job training to ensure that they are acting proficiently in their role.

Company Representation & Client Contact:

  • Liaising with investment managers, brokers, custodians and other external parties.
  • Communicate position breaks and other discrepancies to the investment manager and broker as required.
  • Dealing with Auditors regarding Accounting queries and / or issues.

Training:

  • On the job training will be provided.
  • Usually you will be allocated a mentor / buddy to train you.

Investment Accounting Manager /
Fund Accounting Manager

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree majoring in Accounting, Finance, Business or Commerce.
  • CA or CPA qualified.
  • Minimum of 5 years post qualification experience with a public accounting firm or industry / commercial experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years investment accounting / funds experience with a thorough understanding of fund structures and complex securities.
  • Minimum of 12 months experience in leading and mentoring staff.
  • Working knowledge of financial instruments such as Equities, Bonds, Options, Swaps, Currency, Forwards, Futures and Bank Debt.
  • Working knowledge of Bloomberg.
  • Previous exposure to fund / investment accounting software packages such as Geneva, Prospor or other relevant systems.
  • Delegation awareness.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Evidence of ability to establish good working relationships with both staff and clients.

Highly regarded but not prerequisites

  • Chartered Investment Analyst or Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Responsibilities / Duties
Day to Day:

  • Planning, scheduling and managing the daily workflow on several funds.
  • Management, supervision and training of Seniors and Fund / Investment Accountants as required.
  • Ensure work completed complies with policies and procedures.
  • Ensure strict client reporting deadlines are met.
  • Compile reports for presentation to the Department Head.
  • Approval of employee time sheets and vacation requests.
  • Participating in and heading up projects that may be required from time to time.
  • Carry out periodic performance appraisals on direct reports.
  • Co-odinating audits and dealing with Auditors as required.
  • Be involved in the new staff interview process and assist with the selection of new staff members.
  • Ensure that new staff are trained properly.

Reviewing:

  • All of the reviewing responsibilities of Seniors may also be performed by Managers to some extent.

Technical Support and Training / Mentoring:

  • ct as a point of reference for Seniors and provide on the job training to ensure that they are acting proficiently in their role.

Company Representation & Client Contact:

  • Act as primary contact with clients.
  • Maintain and enhance existing client relationships.
  • Participate in presentations to potential clients.
  • Dealing with auditors for query resolution.
  • Assist in client profitability analysis and presentation recommending ways to increase profits.

Trust Accountant

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree majoring in Accounting, Business or Commerce.
  • CA or CPA qualified.
  • 12 months post qualification experience with a public accounting firm or industry / commercial experience.
  • Well developed ability to prioritize, work under pressure and meet agreed deadlines.

Highly regarded but not prerequisites

  • Experience in preparing financial statements for and auditing self managed superannuation funds or trust structures.
  • Working knowledge of basic financial instruments such as Equities and Bonds.
  • Working knowledge of Bloomberg.
  • Previous exposure to fund / investment accounting software packages such as Geneva, Prospor or other relevant systems.

Responsibilities / Duties
Day to Day:

  • Reconciliation of cash and security positions with Brokers and or Custodians.
  • Resolution of reconciliation queries.
  • Preparation of average cost, fifo, lifo investment schedules.
  • Financial Statement preparation for a group of investment holding companies, trusts and sub trusts.
  • Preparation of relevant documentation for tax purposes.
  • Preparation of financial review analysis and highlight memorandums.

Review:

  • The review aspect of these roles are generally limited.

Technical Support and Training / Mentoring:

  • Training of peers and new collegues as required.

Audit Senior

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree majoring in Accounting, Business or Commerce.

  • Well developed ability to prioritize, work under pressure and meet agreed deadlines.

  • Experience in preparing financial statements for and auditing self managed superannuation funds.
  • Previous exposure in the preparation of financial statements of Insurance companies.
  • Working knowledge of financial instruments such as Equities, Bonds, Options, Swaps, Currency, Forwards, Futures and Bank Debt.
  • Working knowledge of Bloomberg.

Responsibilities / Duties
Day to Day:

  • Working as a member of an audit team.
  • Heading and being involved in multiple audits and ad hoc projects.
  • Carry out risk and control assessments.
  • Working closely with managers in the assessment of audit risk and development of audit programs.
  • Review process flowcharts and narratives.
  • Discuss and communicate issues and findings.
  • Make recommendations to improve internal controls in order to minimize risk.
  • Preparation of reports on compliance.
  • Monitor the progress of agreed upon corrective actions and follow up as required.

Technical Support and Training / Mentoring:

  • Mentoring juniors and less experienced staff.

Audit Manager

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree majoring in Accounting, Business or Commerce.
  • CA or CPA qualified.
  • Minimum 3 years post qualification experience with a public accounting firm or industry / commercial experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years audit experience.
  • Delegation awareness.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Evidence of ability to establish good working relationships with both staff and clients.

Highly regarded but not prerequisites

  • Experience in preparing financial statements for and auditing self managed superannuation funds.
  • Previous exposure in the preparation of financial statements of Insurance companies.
  • Working knowledge of financial instruments such as Equities, Bonds, Options, Swaps, Currency, Forwards, Futures and Bank Debt.
  • Working knowledge of Bloomberg.
  • Understanding of the Sarbanes Oxley act and requirements for compliance.

Responsibilities / Duties
Day to Day:

  • Distribution of workloads.
  • Management and supervision of team.
  • Ensure work completed complies with policies and procedures.
  • Ensure strict client reporting deadlines are met.
  • Working closely with partners to discuss any findings or issues that may arise.
  • Approval of employee time sheets and vacation requests.
  • Presentations to partners and board members.

  • Review of audit files.

Technical Support and Training / Mentoring:

  • Coordination of team training.
  • Mentoring Seniors as necessary.

  • Professional Accounting designation or STEP qualified.
  • 12 months post qualification experience with a public accounting firm, bank or trust company.
  • Good working knowledge of trust and corporate law.
  • Sound knowledge of compliance and regulatory issues such as Know Your Client (KYC) and other anti money laundering policies.
  • Well developed keyboard skills and experience with Word, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Exceptional client relationship skills and a sensitive attitude to the clients needs.
  • Committed to working as part of a team.
  • Able to prioritize effectively, work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities / Duties
Day to Day:

  • Service a portfolio of trusts for high net worth individuals and family members.
  • Review documents in connection with the establishment and ongoing existence of trusts and companies.
  • Ensure compliance with the relevant laws (KYC etc)
  • Consideration of client requests, consulting the managers on technical and legal matters or other sensitive issues.
  • Making payments by bank transfer or cheque.
  • Attend to general trust administration.
  • Maintain full and proper minutes and file notes.

Review:

  • Review financial statements.
  • Assist with monitoring and interpretation of the performance of the clients portfolio and providing recommendations as appropriate.

Technical Support and Training / Mentoring:

  • Training of peers and new collegues as required.

Company Representation & Client Contact:

  • Correspondence and telephone calls with high net worth clients in order to fully understand and carry out their wishes.
  • Liaise with the clients tax, legal and investment advisors as required.
  • Assist the client accounting department (or external accountants) with queries on the preparation of financial statements.

Senior Trust Officers / Administrators

Requirements

Responsibilities / Duties
Day to Day:

  • Effective and appropriate delegation of tasks to junior staff.
  • Complete tasks that may arise as a result of the client reviews and other internal control routines.
  • Approval of employee time sheets and vacation requests.
  • Keep effective diary notes and ensure that matters are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Provide guidance on more complex matters.
  • Carry out periodic performance appraisals on direct reports.
  • Review and ensure that all payments or movements of assets are correct.
  • Ongoing cash management in respect of portfolios including monitoring of cash balances and overdrafts in accordance with the department policy.
  • Ensure that the client base remains compliant with local and international legislation at all times.
  • Liaise with compliance department.

Review:

  • Ensure that proper accounting and record keeping is maintained for the entities under their control.
  • Monitor the performance of client portfolios against stated objectives, taking appropriate action to rectify any problems.

  • Assist in the training, supervision and smooth running of the team.
  • Provide on the job training and assistance to junior staff.
